Error: ‘access denied’ when attempting to run the Office 365 connector setup in the Exclaimer portal


When running the Office 365 Connector Setup wizard to create the transport rule and connectors required by Exclaimer Cloud, an access denied error is displayed and the wizard fails.

The username and/or password has been typed incorrectly

Retype the username and/or password

The user specified is not a Global Administrator

The specified user must be a Global Administrator - you can create a new account, or use an existing Global Administrator account.

Your Office 365 plan does not support the use of transport rules.

Your Office 365 plan type does not support the use of transport rules (for example, you have a Small Business plan). Upgrade to a Business Essentials plan, as a minimum.

Multi-factor authentication is enabled for the specified user.

Disable multi-factor authentication for the specified user, or create a new Global Administrator account which does not have multi-factor authentication enabled.
