Enable-OrganizationCustomization is prompted during the Office 365 connector setup wizard

Scenario:

During the Office 365 Connector Setup wizard in the Exclaimer Cloud portal, you receive a prompt that you must first run the command Enable-OrganizationCustomization. This typically occurs when wizard is adding the Exclaimer Cloud IP addresses to the IP allow list.

Reason:

In Microsoft datacenters, certain objects are consolidated to save space. So, when you use Exchange Online PowerShell (or the Exchange Admin Center) to modify one of these objects for the first time, you may encounter this error message.

For a detailed explanation, please refer to this Microsoft TechNet article.

Solution:

To resolve this issue, follow steps below:

  1. Run the following Powershell script:

    $Credential = Get-Credential

  2. When prompted, enter account details for an Office 365 Global Administrator.

  3. Run the following Powershell script:

    Import-PSSession (New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -Credential $credential -ConnectionURI https://ps.outlook.com/powershell -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection) -AllowClobber

  4. Run the following Powershell script:

    Enable-OrganizationCustomization

Note: you are only required to run the Enable-OrganizationCustomization cmdlet once in your Exchange Online organization. If you attempt to run it again, an error is displayed.
